Premier Chris Minns - School Visit

The Minns Labor Government is investing up to $6 million to upgrade Lisarow High School on the Central Coast as part of its expansion of high potential and gifted education programs.

This major upgrade will enable the school to deliver these programs that extend student learning across a range of subjects, as part of the Government’s broader commitment to expand gifted education across every public school.

Construction will start next year on upgrades to visual arts classrooms, technology and applied studies facilities and a new music room.

Other upgrades planned include:

Teachers are also receiving training to support the implementation delivery of gifted and talented programs and opportunities.

Lisarow High School is one of 33 NSW schools part of the Government’s broader $100 million investment to support the rollout of programs for thousands of high potential students across NSW.

On the Central Coast, Lisarow High School is joined in the program by Narara Valley High School, which is receiving upgrades to their sports field, creative and performing arts facilities and refurbishment of technology and applied studies facilities and a food technology classroom.

Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns said:

“We’re investing in Lisarow High School to help local students reach their full potential.

“These upgrades will allow us to expand access to high potential and gifted education for local students.

“Our expansion of these programs will help thousands of students across NSW excel and prepare for their future.”

Acting Minister for Education and Early Learning, Courtney Houssos, said:

“We want every child to have the opportunity to reach their full potential at school, with high expectations for achievement.

“This is a significant investment in upgrading classrooms and specialist facilities so that schools can deliver on the commitment made by the Deputy Premier Prue Car to expand access to High Potential and Gifted Education.

“NSW public schools already offer a free, world-class education, and these new programs will only enhance that offering.”

Minister for the Central Coast David Harris said:

“These upgrades will make a real difference for local families.

“We want our young people to learn, grow and succeed, and this investment is a major boost.

“We’re ensuring that schools on the coast have the facilities to deliver high-quality education for every child.”

Member for The Entrance, David Mehan said:

“These welcome upgrades to Lisarow High School will give our local students greater employment opportunities as they learn and hone skills that our local employers are looking for.

“They’ll enable students to have better post-school pathway options, whether that’s more study or gaining a job.

“I’m really pleased that the new upgrades will enable the school to deliver improved vocational education and training opportunities to their students, giving them options beyond an ATAR.”

Principal of Lisarow High School, Murray Balfe said:

“These upgrades and renovations are exciting additions to our amazing school.

“Our students will have access to modern, state of the art facilities which will enhance their ability to demonstrate their potential in a range of learning areas.

“In the creative arts field in particular, the upgrades will allow our students to build their skills and improve communication skills as they further develop and showcase their talents.”

U14 Girls - National Futsal Champions

For the second year running, Lisarow High School wake up as National Futsal Champions. This time it’s our amazing u14s girls!  Games took place in Brisbane over 7-9 November.

They took down Kotara HS 3-0 in a hard fought grand final.

The girls deservedly take home the crown as the best u14 girls futsal team in Australasia after going the entire tournament undefeated.

Our boys teams did us proud by both making the semi final, before both going down. To have both the 3rd and 4th best u19 Futsal teams in Australasia is still a huge achievement for our school and one we are incredibly proud of. Jack has already started training for his Aerobics debut next year.

Again this achievement is overshadowed by how amazing our students have behaved and contributed to a trip like this, fundraising, planning, training, supporting each other, and importantly wiping away tears and being ready to go again for your team. We are so lucky to have such wonderful, talented students at LHS.

Mr Gilbert, Mr Lee and Mrs Wilson are so so proud.
