The Lizard Lounge
The Special Education Unit (known as our Lizard Lounge) at Lisarow High School provides engaging and individualised learning programs for students with disabilities and complex learning needs. In partnership with parents, carers and external stakeholders, teachers identify personalised learning priorities for each student and develop personalised learning plans to support the achievement of each student’s goals.
Our welcoming learning environment provides students with innovative learning spaces. This includes access to technology to support each students’ learning and communication needs, a sensory room providing students with a place to self-regulate their emotions and a range of engaging activities that promote social and emotional wellbeing.
Our inclusive educational environment enables students the opportunity to access the NSW Education Standards Authority curriculum with support from specialist teachers and personalised adjustments. Our qualified Special Education Teachers and School Learning Support Officers are dedicated to motivating students to ensure they are successful and engaged learners who reach their full potential.
We aim to develop students' intellectual, social, emotional and physical skills to prepare them for a successful life after school.
We encourage and support students’ participation in whole school programs with their peers. Some of these opportunities include:
- English, Mathematics, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, Creative and Performing Arts, Science, History and Technological and Applied Studies (TAS)
- Whole School Sport, Sporting Academies and Sporting Carnivals
- Assemblies
- Special Events Days
- Excursions and Camps
Lisarow High School’s Special Education Unit currently has three Support Classes. This includes one class catering for students with complex learning needs and two multi-categorical classes.
